Worked examples
Model ItI do
Name the place and value of the 4 in 0.246.
The 2 is tenths, the 4 is hundredths, and the 6 is thousandths. So the 4 is in the hundredths place, and its value is 4 hundredths, or 0.04.
Try It TogetherWe do
Compare 0.3 and 0.28.
Write 0.3 as 0.30 so both have hundredths. Compare: 30 hundredths is more than 28 hundredths, so 0.3 > 0.28.
Now YouYou do
Order 0.5, 0.05, and 0.55 from least to greatest.
Line up the decimal points and compare place by place. Check your answer in the back of this chapter.
